OKOWA URGES WELL-TO-DO DELTANS TO INVEST IN THE STATE
Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has urged Deltans who are doing well in their different fields of work to invest in the state.
Speaking at the Isoko Economic and Investment Summit held at Oleh, Delta State, Governor Okowa stated that the call became necessary because, a lot of Deltans have their industries and other investments outside the state, disclosing that the state is peaceful and safe for investments to thrive.
“That factory that we are putting elsewhere, we can bring it home and if all Deltans who are doing well comes to invest in the state, our state will be blessed the more and more of our youths will get job,” Governor Okowa said, adding, “there is a lot of benefits derivable in investing in Delta State, the environment is friendly and the market is there for your products; we look forward to partnering with investors coming into our state to ensure that they have quick returns on their investments.”
While stating that plans are on to outlaw youths activities in the area of multiple levies nicknamed “deve”, Governor Okowa lauded the Federal Government’s initiatives towards encouraging investors in having Modular Refineries in the country.
He however, appealed that the Federal Government will create a lot of job opportunities if the Polytechnics and the Petroleum Training Institutes are equipped to construct such refineries or be able to manage such when they come on stream.
“We have made our technical colleges to be functional, as parents, we must encourage our children to attend the colleges which will equip them for the Polytechnics because, someone who moved from the technical colleges to the Polytechnics will come out a better person; we want people who can create jobs and be able to stand on their own,”
Governor Okowa stated, reiterating, “We must encourage the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) and the Polytechnics to understudy how to construct Modular Refineries so that subsequently, we will not need expatriates to construct or fix such refineries in the future.”
The Governor who commended the Chairmen of Isoko North and South local government councils, Comrade Emmanuel Egbabor and Sir Itiako Ikpokpo respectively for conceiving the summit, advised that the outcome of the summit should not be put to waste, noting that his administration was committed to encouraging speedy development of the state.
He assured Deltans that the Section C of the Ughelli/Asaba dual carriage way (Asaba to Ozoro) has not been abandoned, disclosing, “we are not abandoning the Asaba/Ughelli road project, we are discussing with the contractor handling the project because, he is being owed a lot of money, even before we came.”
Governor Okowa also, decried the low patronage of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Anchor Borrowers programme and called on Deltans to form cooperative societies to enable them have access to the funds to enable them be involved in large-scale farming which he described as “the greatest employer of labour.”
Earlier in an address, Hon. Egbabor had said, “the summit is driven by the need to diversify the economy of the Isoko nation, improve human capital development, reduce the poverty index of the people of the area, as well as explore new avenues of business developments,” adding, “the theme of the summit is ‘harnessing Isoko Economic Potentials and Opportunities For Sustainable Development.”
Those who spoke at the occasion including Sir Ayodele Othihiwo, Prof. Abednego Ekoko, Prof. Samuel Aghalino, Dr Christopher Akpotu, among others, observed that Governor Okowa has stridently worked for an investment friendly environment in the state and listed areas of investment, especially in Isoko ethnic nationality.

GOV. OKOWA INAUGURATES 7-MAN ADVISORY COUNCIL ON THE PREROGATIVE OF MERCY…HARPS ON REHABILITATION OF EX-INMATES
Delta State Governor Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has inaugurated a 7 man Advisory Council On The Prerogative Of Mercy with a charge to proffer ways of reintegrating ex-inmates into the society.
Speaking in Asaba Governor Okowa said that the Advisory Council should, apart from granting pardon to convicts, come up with a workable plan for the rehabilitation of ex-inmates once they are released.
Those inaugurated were Chief Patrick Okpakpor, Chairman, Dr. Samuel Efetobor; Barr. Kress Njuokuemeni; Hon. (Mrs.) Irene Imilar; John Okoriko Esq; Paulina Egbon, Representative, Nigerian Prisons Services as members, while Rosemary Monye (Mrs.)would serve as secretary.
According to him, “it is in line with the constitutional provision and consistent with our pursuit of a justice system that is fair and equitable that the Delta State Advisory Council On The Prerogative Of Mercy is being inaugurated. Beyond granting pardon to convicts, it is my hope and expectation that the Council will also come up with a template for the rehabilitation of this people once they are released, it is needful that we come up with a workable plan of how these ex-inmates can be engaged to facilitate their reintegration into the mainstream of society”
The Governor explained that “Over the years, the Prerogative of Mercy has helped to decongest our overcrowded prisons nationwide, currently, there are 3,442 inmates in our prisons in Agbor, Kwale, Ogwashi-Uku, Sapele and Warri, this figure includes convicted felons and those awaiting trial. An additional 1,000 plus persons were convicted by the Delta State Judiciary but serving their various sentences in prisons in other parts of the Federation.”
While commending the chairman and members of the Council on their appointment, Senator Okowa urged them to carry out their duty diligently as enshrined in the constitution.
Responding on behalf of the members, Chief Okpakpor thanked Governor Okowa for their appointment and assured him that they would give quality advice to him in the course of their duty.

DEPUTY GOVERNOR’S OFFICE EMBARKED ON SANITATION EXERCISE
As part of effort to key into government policies on healthy living and clean environment, the Delta State Deputy Governor’s office Environmental Sanitation Committee, embarked on environmental sanitation exercise/tour on offices and departments in the deputy governor’s office.
The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Keneke Emotonghan while speaking to newsmen, commended members of the Press Unit as well as other departments for their positive response in ensuring that the working environment is cleaned.
Mr. Emotonghan said the sanitation exercise will be a continuous process in ensuring that the environment and offices of the deputy governor remains conducive and healthy for workers to carry out their civil responsibilities.
According to him, “There is need for all staff to ensure that their immediate offices, departments and environment is kept clean, because this is where we spend the better part of our lives. We work here from 8a.m to 5p.m and even beyond in some cases from Monday to Friday and sometimes on Saturday according to our official demands. So, it is imperative for us to ensure that we keep the environment clean”. He said.
He disclosed that there will be constant supervision on the cleaners and gardeners in order to ensure that the task of maintaining the grasses and cleaning the offices is effectively done.
The chairman of the committee, while calling on all departmental heads to itemize and put forward faulty equipments, facilities as well as areas of needs in their offices, assured members of the deputy governor’s press unit that their areas of needs will be channeled to the appropriate authority for consideration.
Earlier, in his remark, the Public Relation Officer (P.R.O), Mr. Augustine Okwuolise, who headed members of the Press Unit in cleaning their offices, lauded the initiatives of the management of office of the deputy governor in setting up the Environmental Sanitation Committee.
Mr. Okwuolise who noted that the exercise if sustained will enhance a healthy working environment and allow authorities concerned to be abreast with areas of needs and faulty equipments, appealed for urgent attention of some facilities and equipments in the press unit in order to ensure more optimum output from the staff.
The environmental sanitation exercise by staff of Office of the Delta State Deputy governor was well responded to, as staff were seen engaging in the cleaning of their various offices while the chairman and members of his committee were on ground to monitor the exercise.

PROPER DISSEMINATION OF NEWS: A TOOL TO REACH THE PEOPLE – OTUARO
The Directorate of Orientation has been identified as a bridge between government and the people in terms of feedback mechanism on the impact of government policies and programmes.
The Delta State Deputy Governor Barr Kingsley Otuaro disclosed this in his office, Asaba, when he played host to the Executive Assistant to the governor on Orientation, Barr. Eugene Uzum and other stakeholders in the directorate.
Barr. Otuaro proper information dissemination and feedback are tools that help every government to feel the pulse of the people as well as offer a platform to meet the expectations of the people.
He commended the directorate for championing the SMART agenda of the Okowa-led administration and sensitizing the people on the level of success recorded as well as future plans in terms of infrastructural and human capital development.
The state deputy governor pledged to partner with the directorate in the campaign against cultism, hostage taking, child right, pipeline vandalism and other anti-social vices in the state.
Barr. Otuaro affirmed that the present administration is committed to the fulfillment of its electioneering promises and solicited for the support of all in taking the state to an enviable height.
The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Orientation, Barr. Eugene Uzum, asserted that the visit was to thank Deputy Governor for the success recorded by the Peace Advocacy Committee headed by the Deputy Governor that has yielded in the restoration of relative peace in oil bearing communities in the state and to urge him not to relent in piloting the peace building agenda of the State Governor.
Barr. Uzum said the directorate has carried out massive campaign against cultism in schools, pipeline vandalism, child right abuse, youth restiveness, low enrollment of school children in the timeline communities and other unwholesome habits. He called on all to assist the directorate in making the state safe for all citizens.
To further bridge the gap between government and the people, the Executive Assistant said the campaign have been extended to both radio and television as well as Town Hall meetings to sensitize the people on the need to embrace government programmes and shun anything capable of slowing down the development of the state.
The meeting was witnessed by the Chairman of PDP, Delta South, Chief Emma Agbamduba, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Steve Eruotor and other stakeholders in the deputy governor’s office and directorate of Orientation.

EMU EBENDO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
The Ndokwa West Peace and Security Committee has suspended the Emu Ebendo Community Development Committee (CDC) following the leadership crisis that erupted in the community recently.
The committee took the decision in a meeting held in the Local Government Council Chairman’s office to broker peace between the factions of the CDC.
Speaking at the meeting, the Council Chairman who is also the Chairman of Peace and Security Committee, Hon. Ifeanyi Osakwe, said the suspension of the CDC and its activities was necessary to give room for a speedy resolution of the crisis and to allow peace to reign while the settlement lasted.
The committee advised Energies Oil Company in the area not to patronize either of the CDC factions pending the resolution of the crisis by the peace committee.
The Council boss, Hon. Osakwe, appealed to the Security operatives in the area to maintain peace in the community and the oil coy.
On their parts, the JTF Commander, Capt Roberts and other security agents in the meeting lauded the decision and assured the members that they would enforce compliance
In a similar development, the Ndokwa West Revenue Committee has been dissolved with immediate effect.
The Local Government Council Chairman, who is also the Head of the Council’s Finance and General Purpose Committee, Hon. Ifeanyi Osakwe, said the dissolution became necessary because of the need to rejuvenate, overhaul and shore up the revenue base of the Council.
Hon. Osakwe commended members of the dissolved committee for contributing towards the development of the council area. He appealed to business owners and corporate organizations in the area to visit the office of the Treasurer to the Local Government for more information and payment of revenue to the Council.

NDOKWA NATIONALITY URGED TO KEY INTO GOVT SMART AGENDA
The people of Ndokwa Ethnic nationality have been advised to key into the SMART Agenda of the State Government for an accelerated development of the area.
The Commissioner representing Ndokwa Nation on the Board of DESOPADEC, Hon Flenjor Oputa gave the advice while addressing newsmen shortly after attending a PDP meeting in Kwale.
Hon. Oputa said it was necessary to give Governor Okowa the needed support to enable him continue with the implementation of his prosperity for all Deltans mantra.
While commending the people of the area for their contributions to the growth of the party in the area, Hon. Oputa urged party faithful to remain firm and maintain the winning tempo of the party in the State come 2019.
The DESOPADEC Commissioner called on the leadership of the party in the area to ensure that aggrieved members were brought back to the party, stressing that the umbrella was big enough to accommodate everyone.

The PDP Chairman Ika North/East chapter, Chief Godwin Ogadi has hailed the leadership qualities of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, describing him as a pragmatic leader.
Chief Ogadi made the assertion during a meeting of the party at Ngala Primary School Boji Boji Owa.
He noted that the Governor in spite the economic downturn across the globe has done very well, urging the people to keep throwing their weights behind him.
The Chairman while praying that the economy will improve, commend the State Government for restoring peace in the state.

The Chairman, Aniocha North Local Government Hon Chuks Oseme has commended the principal and Staff of Azagba Mixed Secondary School, Issele-Azagba for successfully organizing Her 25th Annual Inter-House Athletics competition.
Hon Oseme was also the chairman of the occasion added that organizing an Inter-House sports competition is a welcome development hence the competition will help to identify the talented young ones in the various sports activities.
The Chairman However Affirmed that he was aware of the numerous challenges confronting the school there for pledged to assist the school in any capacity he can to encourage effective teaching and learning.
He sincerely solicited for support from well place individuals to come to the aid of the school.
Earlier, the principal of the School Mr. Chukwurah A.O. stated in his welcome address that the competition was organized to grow and develop a complete child by balancing both the cognitive and psychomotor domains.
He thanked the chairman and other individuals who contributed towards the success of the competition.
In the same vein he used the occasion appealed to spirited and philanthropist to assist the school to overcome the legion of challenges such as perimeter fencing of the school, construction of examination Hall, Laboratory among others.
High point of the occasion was the presentation of gift to the winners in the marchpast with white House clinching the First position, followed by Yellow and Blue House respectively.
