GOV. OKOWA WELCOMES PRESIDENT BUHARI FROM MEDICAL LEAVE

Delta State Governor Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has expressed joy at the news of return of President Muhammadu Buhari from medical leave.

The Governor said he was pleased to welcome the President back to the country in good health condition.

In a statement issued in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, Governor Okowa thanked Deltans, Nigerians for their un-relentless prayers for the quick recovery of Mr. President and urged them to continue praying for the President and other leaders.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, i heartily welcome our dear President, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari back to the country after his medical vacation in the United Kingdom.

“We thank God that the president is back to the country, even as we pray he recuperates effectively to continue the task of leading Nigeria out of her economic challenges.”

The statement further thanked Acting President Yemi Osinbajo for taking charge of the country effectively in the absence of the President.

VANGUARD AWARD: OKOWA CONGRATULATES EMEFIELE, CLARK

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has congratulated the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele and Elder Statesman, Chief Edwin Clark on their 2016 Vanguard Personality Awards as Vanguard Man of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Awards respectively.

In a congratulatory message issued in Asaba, on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Gov. Okowa extolled the leadership qualities and astute contributions of the awardees to the development of Nigeria and Delta State.

He described Mr. Emefiele as an illustrious son of Delta State whose remarkable contribution to the banking industry in Nigeria is legendary and worthy of emulation.

He said: “Mr. Emefiele is an illustrious son of Delta State in whom we are well pleased. His astute contributions to the development of the banking industry in Nigeria is legendary and worthy of emulation.

“As a distinguished Deltan, Mr. Emefiele has had a remarkable and enviable career in banking culminating in his appointment as Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc, before emerging the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“As Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, we are proud of his achievements in managing the nation’s economy especially in the recessionary period.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate Mr. Godwin Emefiele on his award as the Vanguard Man of the Year.”

In a related development, Governor Okowa has also paid glowing tribute to Elder Statesman, Chief Edwin Clark on his Vanguard Lifetime Achievement Award.

Okowa noted that the remarkable contributions of Chief Edwin Clark to Niger Delta struggle is legendary and worthy of commendation.

“As leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, Chief Clark coordinated the recent resolution of the militancy crisis in the Niger Delta which has effectively stopped the destruction of oil facilities and installations.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, we are proud to identify with Chief Edwin Clark on his Vanguard Lifetime Achievement Award,” the governor added.

Governor Okowa also lauded Chief Clark for establishing the Edwin Clark University in the state and called on well meaning Deltans to emulate the Octogenarian.

DELTA GOVT WADES INTO HOST COMMUNITIES/OIL COY RIFT OVER MoU;
APPEALS TO COMMUNITIES NOT TO SHUTDOWN OIL OPERATIONS

The Delta State Government through the office of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice has waded into the rift between Host Communities in OML 34 and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) over alleged refusal to comply with terms of the Project Global Memorandum of Understanding for the Domestic Gas Project and the Steady State Global Memorandum of Understanding by the Oil company.

The Cluster Development Boards had petitioned the Attorney-General of the State accusing NPDC of failing to respect the terms of the Agreements, threatening to shut down the operations of the Company in the affected communities if urgent and immediate steps were not taken to resolve the face off.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Peter Mrakpor who presided over the mediation meeting between the Cluster Development Boards of the various communities that make up OML 34 and representatives of the multi-national oil giant, NPDC, disclosed that he was acting on the instruction of the Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to resolve all community/oil coy related disputes. He said the move was aimed at protecting the rights of the people as well as to create the enabling environment for investors to do business in line with the ease of doing business objective of the state government.

Mr. Mrakpor who succeeded in restoring peaceful community relations between the hitherto disputants told all parties involved to respect terms of all agreements reached even as he reiterated government decision that all MoU negotiations and reviews involving Host Communities and companies operating in their domain must be driven by the Ministry of Justice, adding that the days when terms of agreements were violated with impunity were long since gone. He stated further that the Ministry of Justice will henceforth enforce the compliance all such agreements through the Court system.

He charged the Management of NPDC to improve on its community relations and ensure that funds meant for the Communities for developmental purposes are released without further delay. He urged the Communities to be calm and not to resort to self-help or shutting down of oil facilities.

Earlier, Chief Nuwawan Oghenero Aladey who spoke on behalf of the Clusters while thanking the Delta Attorney-General for the peace initiative which he described as first of its kind lamented the poor attitude of NPDC towards the Communities. He accused the company of denying youths in the area employments, refusal to pay courtesy visits to traditional rulers and Community Leaders in the area, non-payment of backlogs of Peace awards and refusal to release project funds as contained in the signed MoU to the communities.

54 YOUTHS RECEIVE AUDIO-VISUAL TECHNOLOGY STARTER PACKS

54 youths who have completed their training under the Delta State Government’s Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) have received their starter packs to enable them to begin their enterprises in Audio-Visual Technology.

Handing out the starter packs to the beneficiaries on behalf of the State Government, the State Chief Job Creation Officer, Prof Eric Eboh, said the distribution of starter packs to 54 STEPreneurs trained in Audio-Visual Technology is another milestone in the implementation of the State Government’s job creation programmes.

While saying that the empowerment for STEPreneurs is in fulfilment of the State Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa’s, promise that any STEP trainee who successfully completes his training will be established to begin his enterprise, he reiterated thus, “this event is one in the series of the distribution of starter packs in the next three months in fulfilment of His Excellency’s ‘Strategic Wealth Creation and Provision of Jobs for all Deltans’ in the SMART agenda.”

He said the quality of starter packs for them was developed and recommended by seasoned trainers who understand what is required and needful for the STEPreneurs to be established in the Audi-Visual enterprise.

Prof Eboh mentioned the equipment in the starter pack to include, a non-repayable grant of N50, 000, a HP Laptop; a Generator-Fireman Sumec 2900; Sets of Tripod Stand and a repayable loan of a Nikkon D5500 Camera and Red Head 800 Three Box Lights.

The cash components of the starter pack are operating cash of N50, 000 (fifty thousand naira) and monthly stipend of N10, 000.00 (ten thousand naira) per month for 3 months which will be paid on confirmation of establishment of business to provide a buffer allowance.

On his part, a Job Creation Resource Person on Audio-Visual Technology, Mr Williams Opa, said Audio-Visual Technology was initiated into the State Government’s job creation programme because of its high demand and the need to train youths in technical angle of entertainment, how to operate before and behind the camera.

Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke, Pamela Igbuwe (Isoko North LGA) and Julius Atse (Sapele LGA), expressed their joy and gratitude to the State Government for the empowerment with a promise to put their starter packs into good use.

Similarly, the Chief Job Creation Officer, Prof Eric Eboh, was at the Delta State Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) where he distributed 12 bags of bird feeds to each 2015 Cycle YAGEPreneur in Poultry business.

According to him, the intervention was to cushion the harsh effect of the high cost of bird feeds on the young YAGEPreneurs.

BELLO URGES OSHIMILI NORTH YOUTHS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DTSG EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME

The people of Oshimili North local government area have been admonished to take advantage of the various empowerment programmes set up by the Governor of Delta State in order to assess financial credit for their enterprises through the Delta State micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (DEMSMA).

The advice was given by Mrs. Shimite Bello, the Executive Secretary, Delta State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency, at Oshimili North local government council, Akwukwu-Igbo.

She added that the major objectives of the Agency are to coordinate and promote the development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the State as well as facilitate strategic financing of Agricultural and Allied Products, stressing that funds are disbursed through cooperative, clusters, joint ventures and individual beneficiaries.

Mrs. Shimite Bello stated also that DEMSMA has created special Windows for the most vulnerable group such as widows, Youths and the physically challenged to ensure that they have access to finance.

While speaking, Prince Jerry Ezinwa, Deputy Director General, Team SMART for Okowa, disclosed that a soil test has been conducted for Oshimili North by expatriates and found suitable for the growing of wheat, thus calling on farmers to come for training on how to grow wheat in order to widen the scope of agricultural produce in the State.

The Chairman of Oshimili North local Government Area, in his remarks, stated that indeed the Governor is working, emphasising that every local government has evidently experienced developmental strides in one way or the other especially in the area of roads construction.

He also advised the intending beneficiaries of the loan being disbursed by the DEMSMA to be faithful and diligent in their endeavours, stressing that whoever that receives financial loan from DEMSMA must endeavour to pay back the loan.
