LAWYER COMMENDS GOV. OKOWA ON SAPELE MARKET, CALLS FOR ITS IMMEDIATE RE-OPENING.
A Benin based Human right Lawyer Barr. Obakpolor Emmanuel has commended the Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa for fast tracking the construction of Sapele market while calling for the speedy resolution of all issues concerning the allocation of stores and re-opening of the market.
Barr. Obakpolor who addressed journalists at the Sapele Ultra Modern market said “that the first settlement failed due to improper resolution mechanism by the Sapele local government council”.
He added that the amiable Governor of Delta State Senator Ifeanyi Okowa ordered the Attorney General/Commissioners of Justice in Delta State Barr. Peter Mrakpor and the Chief of Staff government house, Hon. Brisibe to settle the crisis at the market within one week where the disputed parties signed a memorandum of understanding upon settlement.
The legal luminary noted that the next step to complete and open the market is yet to be accomplished by the Sapele local government Council adding that the situation 3 weeks after the MOU now signed, is worrisome as the traders are confused on the stance and non compliance of the Sapele local government council of the governor’s order.
He affirmed that the traders are currently troubled and hoped that there is no more hidden game as earlier manifested by the Sapele local government council, pointing out that the traders anticipated a quick approach to re-opening of the market.
Barrister Obakpolor, who was visibly angry at the poor handling of the market by Sapele council who earlier ordered the closure of the gates leading to the market disrespecting court case order, remarked that he as a lawyer to the traders who styled themselves as “Sapele Ultra Modern market Traders Association” he joined his voice to demand a quick re-opening of the market as his clients have complied with the governors order.

GOVERNMENT FROWNS AT DISRUPTION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL’S ACADEMIC WORK
Delta State Government has expressed dissatisfaction over the actions of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Delta State Chapter who harassed and chased out some principals and teachers and students who complied with the government directive concerning the resumption of schools today and in some Local Government Areas.
Official statement from the Ministry of Information signed by Mr. Paul Osahor, Director of Information indicates that government frowned at the development and has therefore warned that it will not tolerate any act of intimidation of students and law abiding Secondary School Teachers who are going about their legitimate duties.
The statement added that the disruption of ongoing West African Senior Certificate Examination (WASSCE) by the actions of the NUT is worrisome and in very bad taste.
It must be reiterated that the state government has met all its obligations in terms of salary payment to Secondary School teachers and as such their continued sympathy strike is unreasonable, ill-timed and suggestive that it is a calculated attempt to bring untold hardship to parents and students.
Consequently, government wishes to affirm that secondary schools have reopened and that teaching and learning has commenced just as parents and guardians are enjoined to ensure that their children and wards are encouraged to go to school.
Chairmen of Local Government Councils, traditional rulers, security agencies and the general public are therefore requested to ensure the safety of schools in their domain.

Mr. Mrakpor who disclosed that he was a former student of the Institute in the 80’s in Benin City in the defunct Bendel State, however raised the question on who should be the supervisory Ministry to the Institute between the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and that of Higher Education because of the multiplicity of its programmes which falls under the purview of both Ministries.
He said as an Institute that runs a secondary school and remedial programmes, it falls under the supervision of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education but as an affiliate Institute that awards Diploma certificates and higher certificates, it is the Ministry of Higher Education that is saddled with its supervisory duties. The Justice Commissioner however expressed optimism the report and recommendations from his office which will be forwarded to the Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa within the next one week will address all the issues and other challenges faced by the Institute.
Earlier, the Secretary of the Institute, Mrs. Mary Nkechi Mordi who highlighted the various programmes run by the school, disclosed that the Institute has awarded Diploma certificates and Higher Certificates to over ten thousand students in the last few years and appealed that the Institute should be allowed to continue with its degree programmes with or without affiliation as according to the scribe of Delta State ICE, the school has the capacity and man power to carry out its educational responsibility. She said suggested that the Secondary School arm of the Institute could be converted to Demonstration Secondary School as practiced in Colleges of Education and University.

STOP DREAMING, RETURN TO PDP, ONUESOKE ADVISES EMERHOR
Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, Olorogun Sunny Onuesoke has told the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta state, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor to stop dreaming of winning the forthcoming 2019 elections in the state and concentrate on how he can come back to the PDP.
Onuesoke who was reacting to a statement credited to Olorogun O’tega Emerhor where he (Olorogun O’tega Emerhor) said he was not surprise of the recent endorsement by Chief James Onanefe Ibori of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for a second term in office come 2019.
Emerhor had boasted in the media report that the APC in the state are prepared to meet Chief James Ibori, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the PDP at the 2019 elections to finally determine which party now owns the state’s political landscape.
Onuesoke in his reaction stated that Emerhor and his co-travelers of the APC are not threat to the PDP in Delta state come 2019, saying that Emerhor and any party he belongs to has never won any election in the state, “records are there to justify my point’, Onuesoke added.
He explained that “during the 2007 governorship primary election of the PDP held at Ogwashukwu town, Emerhor only scored 78 votes. Even the 2015 general elections, his party, the APC which he was the flag bearer never won any local government area in the state. He even lost his own unit at Evwreni, so I wonder the magic he wants to perform to overcome the PDP come 2019”.
Onuesoke who is from the same constituency with Emerhor, advised Olorogun O’tega Emerhor to come back to PDP and pledge his loyalty to former Governor James Ibori who he (Emerhor) said is the alter ego and defacto principal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

He continued, “the man who is a true friend of who is in authority is the man who brings to his attention areas of deficiency with a view to making them better, you don’t go to the pages of the newspapers to do that, going to the media should be the last resort when your consistent efforts failed to yield results.”
While congratulating the Church for choosing, “Power belongs to God,” as the theme of the convention, Senator Okowa called for prayers for those in positions of authority.
