GOVERNOR OKOWA GREETS OSINBAJO AT 63
Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has sent warm felicitations to the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, as he clocks 63 tomorrow, March 8.
Okowa, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, recalled with gratitude the vice president’s contribution to the restoration of peace in the Niger Delta.
While felicitating with him, the governor said, “today, as always, we celebrate the grace of God on you and your family for the great things you are doing for our country.”
He remarked that the vice president deserved some commendation for his leadership role in improving the nation’s economy as Chairman of National Economic Council (NEC).
He added that Osinbajo’s selfless service to the nation and his many accomplishments in personal and public life were some of the reasons he was being celebrated today on the occasion of his 63rd birth anniversary.
According to him, the diplomatic shuttles of Osinbajo to the states of the Niger Delta led to the cessation of hostilities and destruction of oil assets in the creeks of the region.
“As Chairman of the National Economic Council, you have played significant roles in the growth and development of the nation’s economy and we can’t thank you enough,” the governor said.
“On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta, I congratulate His Excellency, the Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, GCON, as he celebrates his 63rd birth anniversary.
“Your Excellency, the ideals of uncommon patriotism, unparalleled humility and sterling leadership qualities which you epitomise are worthy traits that will continue to inspire us in our Stronger Delta vision.

OKOWA CONGRATULATES OTUARO ON NIGER DELTA PEACE AWARD
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta today, congratulated his deputy, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, on his conferment with the Niger Delta Peace Ambassador Award 2019.
The award, which was organised by the Daily Independent Newspapers Limited, was presented to Otuaro today at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, Okowa recalled with gratitude the Deputy Governor’s contribution to the restoration of peace in Niger Delta.
He described Otuaro as a dependable ally and trusted partner in the Stronger Delta vision.
He noted that Otuaro’s outstanding patriotism, humility and support to the administration stood him out as a good Peace Ambassador of not just the Niger Delta but the entire Nigeria.
The governor said that he was grateful to God for giving him Deacon Otuaro as deputy and prayed God to grant him more wisdom as they journey together to bequeath a Stronger Delta to the people.

ADMINISTRATION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE LAW IS AN EFFECTIVE LEGISLATION- MRAKPOR
The State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Peter Mrakpor, has described the domestication of the Administration of the Criminal Justice Law by the Delta State Government as an effective and impactful legislation that has reshaped the administration of criminal justice system in the State.
The Attorney-General made the assertion while receiving the new Controller of Corrections, Nigeria Correctional Service, Delta State Command, Mr Ovie Esezobor who was in the A-G’s office on a courtesy visit on Thursday, March 5, 2020 in Asaba.
Mr Peter Mrakpor who averred that the impact of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law was being felt positively especially in the decongestion of custodian facilities across the State, expressed delight at the progress been made by the Nigeria correctional service even though he conceded that there was much work that still requires to be done in reforming the system.
He maintained that the Ministry of Justice under his watch has introduced several other innovations including criminal file reviews and audits in ensuring that inmates were not remanded in prison custody unjustly and advocated for a comprehensive rehabilitation training programme for inmates in order to eliminate recycling of inmates back to prison after they have regained their freedom.
The Justice Commissioner while expressing the goal of the law that envisaged concluding all criminal trials between four to six months, expressed regret that the Correctional Service was operating under very challenging conditions.
Earlier, the new Controller of the Correctional Service, Delta State Command, Mr Ovie Esezobor told the Delta A-G that he was in his office on a familiarization visit and to present to the Justice Commissioner, a copy of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act 2019 that changed the nomenclature from the erstwhile Nigerian Prison Service.
Mr Esezobor who was deployed to the State on 13th December, 2019 commended the Attorney-General for his good work and support for the Correctional Service in repairing their broken down vehicles. However, the Controller of Corrections made an appeal for continued support for provision and repairs of vehicles to enable them convey inmates to court for reproduction to face trial.
While assuring the Delta State Government and other stakeholders of their determination to carry out their constitutional responsibility of reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration, Mr Esezobor commended the Ministry of Justice and the Judiciary for their commitment in the quick dispensation of justice in the State which has reduced drastically the issues of delay in justice delivery.

ANIAGWU CHALLENGES OUTGONE CORPS MEMBERS ON NATION BUILDING, SELF-RELIANCE
The Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has urged the 2019 Batch A outgone corps members, to leverage on the experience they acquired in the ministry to contribute to nation and self development.
Aniagwu who gave the advice yesterday during the sent forth ceremony of the for the corps members, said they should, use the wealth of experience which they have gathered in the university and the ministry to bring change to the society.
According to him, “Education is an Eliza, it gives you an advantage to conquer whatever environment you are” so whatever experience you have garnered both in school and ministry should be channeled positively to the benefit of the society as well as in whatever sector they are called to serve.”
Aniagwu who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Paul Osahor, said: “In advance democracies, they have discovered that economy is built by individual initiative” and called on the corps members to avail themselves skillfully in any of the sector, to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the society.
He also advised them to avoid any vice that may jeopardized their future especially and they should acquire a skill no matter what they studied in school “because when they do the sky will be their starting point”
“And when you are skillfully employed you are place in such position to make contribution to the society and to create wealth which have multiplied effect on others and take them away from vices,” Said Aniagwu.
The Information boss advised them to take advantage of the skill acquisition programme of the Delta state government especially those from the state to better themselves in order to create a meaningful society.
He said that most of the crimes today, were because of the erroneous belief that there was no Job, urging them to engage themselves and shun the get-rich-quick syndrome, stating that it was one of the vices that had contributed to the degeneration of society.
Meanwhile, directors in the ministry appreciated the outgone corps members for their selfless service to the various departments and urged them to continue in the same vein wherever they are found, wishing them all the best in every sphere of their lives.
Present at the event were the Director of Information, Mr Dona Obuseh; Director of Publication and Producttion Services, Mr Lucky Omokiri; Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr Kingsley Olomukoro; Director Government Printing Press, Mr. Harold Ojji; and the Director of Administration, Ms Maria Adheke.

“USE YOUR TIME WISELY, BE RESOURCEFUL”-OGIDI-GBEGBAJE CHARGES YOUTHS
The Permanent Secretary Directorate of Government House and Protocol Mr. Eddy Ogidi-Gbegbaje has charged youths to remain resourceful, focused, and prayerful in spite of the challenging state of the nation.
Mr. Ogidi-Gbegbaje gave the charge yesterday at the send forth ceremony held in honor of the members of the 2019 Batch A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who served at the Directorate.
Mr. Ogidi-Gbegbaje who was represented by the Chief of Protocol Mr. Tetsola Nelson explained that despite the challenging situation facing the nation, youths in the country should be resourceful, focused and look up to God for direction and guidance in whatever endeavor they want to pursue after service.
According to him “In spite of the fact that things are rough and quite difficult, there is still a ray of hope that greater times are ahead and so you must remain steadfast, focused and prayerful as you must remember that you have a God and a family name to protect”.
Mr. Ogidi-Gbegbaje emphasized the need for skill acquisition and vocational training to better equip themselves rather than waiting for government to provide white collar jobs.
“You must acquire other skills to better equip yourselves in the labour market rather than looking for white collar jobs that are no longer easy to come by”.
“Use your time wisely, let the skills and knowledge you have gained during your service drive you to achieve greater things for your future” he added.
He commended the corps members for their exemplary decorum during their service in the Directorate and charged them to remain good ambassadors of the state and their families.
Speaking briefly the Director of Administration Mr. Nkemachor charged the corps members to become self-reliant and dedicated in their pursuits after service.
Responding on the behalf of the outgoing corps members Miss Omotayo Blessing expressed gratitude to the management and staff of the Directorate for the hospitality and conducive working environment they enjoyed during their service.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of souvenirs by the Permanent Secretary and other top officials to the corps members.

COE WARRI COMMENDS MACAULAY FOR DRAINS, CLEAN UP EXERCISE
The Management and Staff of the College of Education, Warri has commended the Director General, Warri/Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, (WUEDA) Comrade. Ovuozourie Macaulay for given Warri and its Environs a decent look.
This commendation was made by the Provost of the College, Prof Mrs M.O Edema when she led the management team on a courtesy visit to the DG in Warri.
Edema expressed satisfaction on the level of impact created by the Agency so far noting that Warri and its Environs that have been associated with dirt have now began to wear a new look.
According to her, with the sagacity of the DG and his passion to transform the environment, a legacy of cleanliness and integrated development would be put on ground, that generations to come will know that a man once came Warri axis to turn the environment around for the better.
“We want to congratulate you on your appointment and also thank you for helping to put our city in good look; environmentally we can say now that we have a city people can come and be pleased with what they see” she said.
The Provost pleaded with the DG to extend the good work to the College by ensuring that the College was properly drained and devoid of the perennial flooding, stressing that the flooding has been a major challenge for the College.
Besides, she solicited the assistance of WUEDA in getting some of the sands being removed from the roads by the Agency across to the College premises to fill some water-logged area that has been pulling down their fences.
In his response, Macaulay who is a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) enjoined the College to exercise some patience and allow the master drainage project to progress for some months adding that hopefully, the major drain works might resolve the College’s flooding problem.
On the request for sand, he urged the College to liaise with the relevant department of the Agency, and reiterated that “this is the first time a master study has been done to carry out a master drainage plan in the axis; and areas not included in the map cannot be handled now, that will be going out of the contract terms.”

YOUTHS DEVELOPMENT MINISTRY TO INAUGURATE YOUTH PARLIAMENT

The Delta State Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, is set to inaugurate Delta State Youth Parliament in the state.
The move which has been described by many as very proactive, will afford youths in the state to decide on major issues affecting them, and also equip them to proudly represent the state in deliberations in local and international level, such as the United Nations.
Speaking on the forthcoming event of the ministry, the Special Assistant to the Commissioner for Youth Development on community youth, Mr Raymond Onesiete in Koko, called on interested youths wishing to serve as youth parliamentarians representing their various constituencies to obtain their form from the ministry’s head office in Asaba.
He stated that the candidates would be screened, noting that it would help fish out those not qualified to take up the mantle of responsibility as youth parliamentarians.
The special assistant commended the move by the ministry in constituting Youth Parliament in the state, the president, National Youth Organization of Nigeria, Warri North chapter, Comrade Jones Ebienayon.
He however bemoaned the lackadaisical attitude of some of the exco members towards major issues concerning the organization, and pleaded for more policies and programmes that would better prepare youth stakeholders on how best to communicate to youths at the rural level.

EGWUNYENGA ASSURES WARRI NORTH COUNCIL OPTIMAL YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

The Commissioner for Youth Development, Comrade Ifeanyi Egwunyenga, has assured the Chairman of Warri North Local Government Council, Hon. Aduge Okorodudu of optimal youth development in his local government area.
Comrade Egwunyenga who gave the assurance while meeting with the council chairman before proceeding to the sensitization workshop for critical youth stakeholders in Delta state, said that importance will be placed on the local government area.
He reasoned that the Chairman, House Committee on Youths and Sports Development in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Fred Martins, was the member representing Warri North constituency, adding that, as far as youth and sports development was concerned, Warri North was covered.
While stating that the reasons for being in the council headquarters, the commissioner commended the proactive nature of the State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa in redefining and re-energizing the directorate and upgrading it to a ministry to carry out its responsibilities.
On his part, Hon Okorodudu, commended the steps being taking by the ministry at addressing youth empowerment, noting that youth restiveness poses a big challenge to the council area. And that due to the oil spillage from oil exploration, fishing which is the main occupation of the people, is no longer productive, and has led to increased poverty in the area.
While thanking Governor Okowa for approving the construction of water project in one of the riverine communities, Hon. Okorodudu, pleaded for a provision of a troller that will enable youths go to the deep sea which their small boats cannot access to catch fish for eating and selling to the women who in turn take it to big markets for sale.
He stated that the riverine nature of the LGA makes every project in the area capital intensive, and urged the Honourable commissioner to remain committed to the course, and also give priority attention to the LGA.
Dignitaries present at the meeting were directors and special advisers from the ministry, and top management staff, and key members of the executive of the council.
The commissioner later proceeded to the Koko Community Management Authority hall, venue for the sensitization workshop before leaving for Asaba.

OWHASE PRIMARY SCHOOL IN UDU LOCAL GOVERNMENT GETS BORE HOLE
The Headmistress of Owhase Primary School, Mrs Maria Boro has built a bore hole water supply in Owhase Primary School in Udu Local Government Area.
The bore hole, commissioned by the Udu LGA Education Secretary, Hon. Daniel Tashere was well attended by dignitaries in Udu who described the gesture as first of its kind, ‘to see an individual who is not a politician to do this unlike some politicians who embarked on project to boost their political ego.”
Speaking on behalf of the headmistress the head teacher Mrs Elizabeth Animal commended the effort of the Principal Mrs Boro said the rationale building this project was a passion driven one, that since she became the principal Owhase Primary had undergone tremendous positive change few to mention was the provision of sign post which indicate welcome to Owhase Primary School and also provision of welcome back pack during school resumption.
She also said that apart from improving the physical appearance of the school the intellectual aspects is neglected because she ensured that students and teachers lived up to their responsibilities.
Mrs Boro fondly called digital Mama because of innovative instinct ensures that the water flow to the toilet for easy flushing and proper washing of hand to promote good hygiene.
The students wouldn’t hide their joy as they’re seen all over the washing closets, washing hands severally.
The joy of the students knew no bounds who before now had to schedule time table of who to fetch water to clean the toilet daily.
According to the students getting water had been a difficult tasks as there had to search for water all over the community without progress because must well are dried up adding that this project was a step in the right direction.
Commending this laudable project is the community president general Austin Rioka for contribution to the students and in turns the community.

UGAVAH WINS UVWIE LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL NULGE CHAIRMANSHIP SEAT

Comrade Mercy Ugavah defeated the incumbent Chairman of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Uvwie Local Government Council , Chapter Comrade Erusuena Akpos on Thursday February 27th 2020.
The election was keenly contested just as it was adjudged the most freest , peaceful and credible in the history of NULGE elections in Uvwie Local Government Council.
The victory of the Uvwie born Comrade Ugavah triggered wide jubilation amongst staffs of the local government council most of whom were said to be yearning for a change of leadership of the union.
The staffs held a victory party in honour of Comrade Mercy Ugavah at the council premises where they dance out their hearts the following Monday at March 2, 2020.
In a brief chat with our correspondents, the victorious Comrade Ugavah gave glory to God for her victory at polls. She also expressed appreciation to staffs of the council for their support.
She promised to operate an open policy of administration where every staff would be carried along.
While promising to meet the yearnings of staffs of the council, she solicited for their continuous support to enable her and other elected executives of the union take the local government council to greater heights.

The chairman felicitate with Comrade Kennedy Oyanna after his emergence as chairman of the union, in a keenly contested election of four candidates under the supervision of the electoral umpires and the environment made conducive for a free and fair contest.

Comrade Kennedy Oyanna got the majority votes at the end of the election and he was declared winner.

The Director of Studies Best Model International Schools, Warri Evangelist Peter Ighoakpokrire has listed gains of sports competitions to Children.
Ighoakpokrire listed the gains of sports competitions in children in his welcome address during the 7th annual inter house sports competitions of the school at Warri Township Stadium on Thursday March 5th, 2020.
He asserted that sports competitions prepare children to face life challenges with the right attitude.” They also socialize, carryout team work successfully and develop the spirit of sportsmanship”
Ighoakpokrire added that “sports bring together students from public and private schools to share, compete and improve their mental behavior.”
He therefore urged government at all levels to give priority to athletics and to encourage students in both public and private schools in athletes.
“This would encourage our students to participate in sporting activities like their counterparts in other states of the country.”
“Athletes have business potentials, sporting activities have been contributing positively to the economic growth of nations just as sports is also important to health.”
Uncle P seized the opportunity to appeal to parents and guardians to continue to contribute to sporting activities in the school through donations of sports equipment, trophies and general development in order to enhance the inspirational vision of the school to an international level.

OTOR-UDU SECONDARY SCHOOL HOLDS 6TH ANNUAL INTER-HOUSE SPORTS COMPETITION

The Otor-Udu Secondary school, yesterday held her 6th annual inter house sports competition.
The inter house sports competition which took place at the school premises, was well attended by dignitaries, parents and teachers, many of the students were on ground wearing their verses(sports wears) of different colours with the names of the houses written on them, also present were students invited from other schools to participate in the competition.
There are six houses in Otor-Udu secondary School, Blue house, Green House, purple house, red house, white house and yellow house with their patrons present.
The principal Mrs Florence Ekiugbo Onogagamue in her keynote address, appreciated all who took out time to celebrate this joyful occasion, stating that the importance of sports cannot be over emphasised considering it’s benefits to humanity, saying, sports helps to develop the talents of the children in areas of Education, it enhance s the physical well being of the individual, it helps to prevent dangerous diseases that could have led to death eg stroke etc, sports brings unity and peaces among students, communities and countries.
Mrs Onogagamue stated that it’s with all these benefits of sports hence the state Governor His Excellency Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has made it compulsory for all schools in the state to always hold these sporting events annually.
The principal enlisted some amenities needed in the school which includes Fencing of the school premises to avoid Intruders who perpetrate evil, Sports equipment like goal post, javelin, short-put, volleyball/handball equipment, School library and new trophies for inter-house sports.
The high point of the event was the announcement of the results, of which Red house took the first position, White House took the second position and Yellow house came third.

SSA TO OKOWA PASSES ON
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) Political to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Chief Godspower Muemuifo has passed on.
Chief Muemuifo who was a former Secretary in Ughelli-South Local Government Council passed on Wednesday March 4, 2020.
Until his death, he was an astute politician and a complete party man of the People’s Democratic Party.
He will be greatly missed by the entire Ughelli-South Local Government Area, as the Secretariat was quiet and in mourning mood with various important activities moved to next week by the council chairman as a result of the sad news of SSA’s demise.
