OKOWA CONGRATULATES GOV. DIRI AT 61
Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, today congratulated his Bayelsa counterpart, Senator Douye Diri, as he clocks 61 years.
Okowa, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, extolled Diri for his tremendous contributions, through service, to the development of his state and country.
According to him, the sterling contributions of Diri to the development of Bayelsa and Nigeria as a former commissioner and lawmaker are remarkable.
Okowa noted that the governor had since assumption of office demonstrated determination and was doing everything possible to achieve his #GreaterBayelsa vision.
“Your selfless and impressive start as Governor of Bayelsa have already distinguished you as an emerging nationalist and one to look out for in the future political development of our country.
“For the few months you have been in the saddle, the people of Bayelsa can attest to your doggedness, commitment and steadfastness in state craftsmanship as exemplified in the achievements being recorded by the government under your watch.
“On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta, I congratulate a gentleman of honour and integrity, a promising leader of this generation and a consummate politician of our time, Senator Douye Diri, on his 61st birth anniversary.
“Indeed, your emergence as Governor of Bayelsa was miraculous and I urge you to continue to work hard for the good of the people of your state because God gave you the position to render service to your people.
“On this auspicious occasion of your 61st birth anniversary, I join your family, friends and well-wishers to thank Almighty God for your life which has been marked by God’s favour and outstanding accomplishments,” Okowa said.

COVID 19: UGHELLI RENTAL BUSINESS OWNERS CRY FOR HELP

As the COVID 19 pandemic continues to ravage the nation, bringing business activities to a standstill, rental business owners in Ughelli have appealed to Delta State Government for financial assistance.
Speaking to our correspondent, the Chairman of the Ughelli Rental Association, Mr Anthony Edigho, said since the Lockdown he has not gone out for business. “Since the Lockdown I have not gone anywhere for business. No burial, no marriage and that applies to other social activities. ‘
Mr Edigho described the situation as very bad and dehumanizing, saying, “you sit in the shop from morning to evening no booking whatsoever. ‘ He added that the ones booked before the Lockdown are hanging on his neck as no date has been fixed.
Mr Edigho appealed to the state government to relax the Lockdown on social activities and also assist its members financially to cushion the effect of the Lockdown on their members.
The owner of the Best Rentals, Mr Ejenavi Agbroko said things have been tough for himself and his family since the Lockdown.
“Government has locked door against us and our business. Since March I have not gone anywhere for business. It is very tough for me and my family.
Mr Agbroko said government should relax the Lockdown for social activities in the state.
He accused the taskforce and the police monitoring social activities in state of turning it to money-making business.

DAME OKOWA, A TRUE MOTHER OF DELTA STATE – OKOH

A former Vice Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Council, Olorogun (Hon) Eunice Daji Okoh has remarked that the wife of Governor Okowa, Dame (Mrs) Edith Okowa as a true mother of Delta State.
Okoh who is a Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to governor Okowa on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, made the remark in her message of felicitations to Mrs Okowa on her 59th birthday anniversary in a media interaction with our correspondent at Otu Jeremi, Ughelli South Local Government Area on Monday June 1st, 2020.
She noted, “Besides being supportive to our indefatigable governor, she (Mrs Okowa) has displayed the spirit of true motherhood in her dealings with Deltans as could be seen in her establishment of 05 Initiative that is one of outstanding health achievements of her husband administration.”
Okoh who is a distinguished member of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) also applauded Dame (Mrs) Okowa for her donations of palliative to vulnerable persons and her donations to children during the recent Children’s Day celebration in the state.
“These are attributes of a true mother. So she truly deserves to be called the mother of Delta State,” she stated.
The front line female politician then prayed that God should bless Dame Okowa with more fruitful years to enable her to continue to support her husband and do more good things for humanity.

INOAGHAN CHARGES NSCDC ON CONTINUOUS SYNERGY WITH COUNCIL

The Chairman of Sapele Local Government Council, Hon. Eugene Inoaghan, has called on the Delta State Command of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to work towards strengthening the existing cordial relationship between the council and the command.
Hon. Inoaghan made the call when the corps’ newly posted Commander in the local government paid him a courtesy visit at the secretariat of the council in Sapele.
The chairman who expressed delight at the visit promised to continue to build on the existing synergy and mutual beneficial relationship between the NSCDC and the local government.
Inoaghan enjoined the corps to work in seamless synergy with other security agencies in Sapele to ensure that all anti- social vices were reduced to its bearest minimum in the town and Delta State in general.
Earlier, the newly posted Commander, Imeobong Imoke, stated that the visit was to extend hand of good working relationship to the local government chairman.
Imeobong expressed delight at the monumental developmental strides of the council, pointing out that the chairman’s achievements echoed beyond Delta State and called for continued good working relationship with Sapele Local Government Council.
Present at the visit were CSP, Akande Abubarkar Aliyu, the Divisional Police Officer, Sapele Police Station, Omorodion Kelvin, Divisional Officer, Nigeria Civil Defence Corps, Sapele, and Nolisa Franklin, Divisional Officer, Ughelli North.
Others were Oghor Alfred, Divisional Officer, Ughelli South, Omatsuli Helen, Divisional Officer, Uvwie and Meye Kingsley, Divisional Officer Udu.

OKPANAM COMMUNITY BLAMES BEDC FOR BURNT TRANSFORMER, DEMANDS REPLACEMENT

Ogbeozoma Quarter of Okpanam Community, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State has appealed to Government of Delta State to prevail on the officials of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to replace their burnt transformer.
The community said the transformer got burnt due to the unwholesome activities and share incompetence of some staff of the company carrying out maintenance work, through wrong connections on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 with a-33KVA transformer to enable the people of the area access electricity delivery and supply within two weeks.
The transformer which was serving the community was said to have been burnt down on Thursday, June 4 after some officials of BECD carried out some repairs around the transformer station at about 6.00 pm the previous day before the unfortunate incident occurred.
Speaking to newsmen, the Chairman of Ogbeozoma Youths, Comrade Smart Ifesindi blamed the official of BECD for the wrong connections when they effected repairs on the transformer few hours before light came, adding that they would be held responsible for the incident.
Comrade Ifesindi described the action of those that effected repairs on the transformer as absolute wickedness, display of incompetence and mediocrity in the discharge of their duties, just as he advised the General Manager of the company in the state to expedite action in order to forestall the existing cordial relationship between them.
While also calling on the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa led administration to assist the community to get a new transformer, Comrade Ifesindi lamented the continued extortion from BEDC in the area through outrageous bills particularly for services not provided.
Narrating further, Comrade Ifesindi noted that the ugly incident would adversely affect socio-economic activities in the area especially in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, saying that if not for the timely intervention of the people, a building would have equally been burnt down as a result of the raging fire from the burning transformer even as he promised to lead a delegation to BEDC office as soon as possible.
Comrade Logede Eze accused BEDC of not adhering to its obligation and called for the sack of those that carried out the ill-fated repairs on the transformer while also advocating for consistent training of their staff in order for them to be abreast with modern trends in their operations.
