The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Hon. Sunny Ogwu has assured contractors who submitted tenders for the 2015 Federal Government Universal Basic Education Commission and the Delta State intervention school projects of a transparent process in the award of jobs to eligible contractors.
Hon. Ogwu made this known while speaking during the official opening of bids for various jobs as advertised by the Board.
The SUBEB boss while assuring that due process and proper evaluation would be strictly followed in the award of jobs to successful bidders, charged eligible contractors who would be successful at the end of the process to ensure that the projects are executed to standard specifications.
The SUBEB Chairman who said that the projects will be closely monitored to ensure that substandard jobs are not executed urged successful bidders to liaise and seek the cooperation of the School authorities where the projects are sited before mobilizing to site for commencement of work.
About two hundred contractors submitted tenders for various jobs advertised by the Universal Basic Education Board for the execution of Whole School Concept across the 25 Local Government Areas of the State.
The projects include renovation of old buildings and reconstruction of new buildings as well provision of other infrastructures including provision of solar powered boreholes, fencing, toilets and landscaping projects amongst others.
According to the Chairman of the Board, the projects are sited in each of the 25 Local Government Areas of the State as part of the Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration’s commitment in improving the standard of education in the State.
Present at the event which took place at the SUBEB Headquarters Office, Asaba was the Commissioner for Basic Education Barr. Chiedu Ebie who sent a representative, the 2ndMember of the Board, Chief Mrs. Lilian Osuya, the Secretary of the Board, Sir. Byron Unini and the State Coordinator of UBEC, Miss Umoete Unyime amongst others.
