The Senior Special Assistant on Contributory Health Insurance Scheme, Solomon Ebinum has lauded the 05 Initiative of Her Excellency, Dame Edith Okowa as timely, helping those living with sickle cell anaemia to cope with the overwhelming obstacles and emotional challenges that are a part of living with a serious, chronic disease that is the target of much ignorance.
He stated this in Eku after the commissioning of the Sickle Cell Clinic at the Eku Baptist Government Hospital, that recently the National Director of the Sickle Cell Foundation of Nigeria, Dr. Annette Akinsete revealed that about 150,000 children are born with Sickle Cell Disease yearly in the country, representing the highest number of persons born with it across the world.
Solomon Ebinum also noted that the 05 Initiative is in the DNA of the SMART agenda of Governor Okowa’s administration for the prosperity of all Deltans.
While expressing delight at the success already achieved by the 05 Initiative, he thanked Her Excellency, Dame Edith Okowa for the vision behind the initiative, saying such a project could not have come at a better time and charged all Deltan people to rise to the faith of greatness.
He said that with the establishment of the five Sickle Cell Clinics in Agbor, Oleh, Sapele, Ughelli, Kwale and the huge success recorded so far in all the centres, the 05 Initiative will be a positive reference point in the nearest future.
