The Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) today kicks off its Dialogue and Stewardship Testimonial programme with outgoing Local Government Council Chairmen.
The move is in a bid to perform its watchdog responsibility to society as well as its constitutional obligation of upholding the responsibility and accountability of the government to the people.
Briefing journalists in Asaba, the state capital, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Delta State Council, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu said the aim of the programme is to dialogue with outgoing Local Government Council Chairmen in the state to enable them to speak on their stewardship in the past three years.
The NUJ boss said; the people deserve to know how their Council Heads have fared over the last three years; their challenges, and their recommendations and plans if given another chance.
Comrade Ikeogwu also noted that the dialogue will run from September 25 to October 23, 2017, starting with Oshimili North and South and ending with Ughelli North and South.
Aniocha North and South will hold on Wednesday, 27th October 2017, Ika North-East and South-East on September 29, Ndokwa East, West and Ukwuani on October 4, Warri North and South on October 6, Warri South-West and Burutu on October 9, and Isoko North and South on October 11.
Bomadi and Patani’s dialogue will take place on October 13, Uvwie and Udu on October 16, Ethiope East and West on October 18, Okpe and Sapele on October 20 while Ughelli North and South will hold on October 23.
Comrade Ikeogwu disclosed that the dialogue which commences at ten am each day at the NLC Secretariat (Labour House) along NTA Road, Asaba and will be a continuous exercise for political office holders and seekers in Delta state.
