A lecturer at English Department, Federal University of Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Dr Franca Okumo has advised parents to guide their children on the right use of cell phones.

Dr Okumo gave the advice while fielding questions from our correspondent shortly after she gave a talk on ’Positive Parental Involvement in the Child Education’

She posited that the standard of education in Nigeria was falling on a daily basis.

“I think we have lost a lot of values. Our children have lost value of hard work mentally”.

“On social media, they chat away with friends, instead of learning,” she said.

The Lecturer therefore urged parents to reorient their children on the right use of cell phones to get all the positive assets in it, adding: “We should open their eyes to see how they can harness the positive assets of cell phones.”

The Director of Shamar School, Enerhen, Uvwie Local Government Area, Dr Onyi Ikemefuna who also spoke to our correspondent shortly after the talk,  proudly disclosed that the school has introduced morality education as part of ways to improve the standard of education.

“The standard of education cannot fall under our watchful eyes. The program we just had was about positive parental involvement. Parents should be involved by being parts of their children’s education and well being because, together we can make it,” Dr Ikemefuna said.
