Flood: Delta Govt Begins Move To Manage Effurun, Warri And Environs

Delta state government has stated that incessant flooding in Effurun, Warri and its environs would soon be a thing of the past.

The State Commissioner for Works and Chairman of the Effurun/ Warri-Environ Storm Water Control Measure Committee, Chief James Augoye stated this at the maiden meeting of the 11 man committee at the Government House Annex in Warri.

Chief Augoye said the committee was set up by the state government to look into curbing the incessant flood plaguing Effurun/Warri-Environ noting that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa administration was poised to ensure enabling environment for Deltans to carry out their day to day activities.

He added that the flood menace is a disgrace to the state given the fact that Delta has natural waterways that stormwater could drain in to.

The works commissioner said the committee has also set up a sub-technical committee that would carry out a field study of the flooded areas and report back to the general committee in two weeks time who would then process information and make an official report to the governor next month.

The meeting featured presentation of a google map to identify the flooded areas, blocked natural water channels and places where possible drains could be constructed to connect to the natural waterways.

The eleven-man Effurun/Warri-Environ Storm Water Control Measure committee further paid a visit to the Local government chairman of Warri South West and Uvwie Local government areas to intimate them of their plans and sue for their support especially in the area of security.

The Local government chairman of Warri south local government area, Honourable Michael Tidi and his counterpart in Uvwie, Honourable Ramson Tega both promised to support the committee to ensure that their mandate is carried out their mandate successfully noting that it is a project that would benefit the people living in Effurun, Warri and its environs.
