The State Deputy Governor, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro says the policies and programmes of the Okowa led administration in the area of entrepreneurship development is geared towards impacting skills on Deltans to make them self sustainable.
Deacon Otuaro stated this when he received the management of Waffi TV led by its Chief Executive Officer, Pastor Ares Akemotubo on a courtesy visit at the Conference Hall of his office.
The Deputy Governor said Okowa administration places high premium on entrepreneurship development hence the STEP and YAGEP programmes which have trained several youths in skills acquisition.
He noted that the reliance on only education is not enough stressing that learning a skill is an added advantage in today’s world.
Deacon Otuaro said thousands of youths are searching for white collar jobs in the country which are not readily available noting that the surest way to go, is to build capacity in the areas of skill acquisition.
The Deputy Governor commended the Chief Executive Officer of Waffi TV, Pastor Ares Akemotubo for his concept to organise a reality TV show in the state where participants will be taught various skills.
He lauded the efforts of the Chief Executive Officer for painstakingly developing Waffi TV into a brand stressing that he should interface with the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu on his concept for a TV reality show.
The Chief Executive Officer of Waffi TV, Pastor Ares Akemotubo said the station is a twenty four hours pidgin online station and is currently on all free to air decoders.
He said the station which is watched in Asia and Europe has developed from being only on the internet to all free to air decoders adding that the station adds value to the society through its contents.
Pastor Akemotubo noted that the state government’s skill acquisition programmes had helped in redirecting youths in the state to learn skills in various areas.
He disclosed that Waffi TV had concluded plans to organise a reality TV show where sixty participants will be trained in various areas of skills with the winner going home with twenty million naira.
While noting that those who did not scale through the auditioning would also be trained, Pastor Akemotubo solicited for the assistance of the state government.
In an interview, the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu said the empowerment programme through the Waffi TV reality show is highly commendable as it would provide a platform for youths to learn skills.
He noted that some other reality shows engaged in anti social activities but Waffi TV had come up with a different concept which is key aside providing entertainment.
Mr Aniagwu also commended Waffi TV for engaging youths in its operations noting that their pidgin concept can be exported to the world.
