The Delta State Government through the State Ministry of Environment has reaffirmed it commitment to adopting proactive measures to tackle the menace flooding in some parts of the state faced with flooding challenges.
The Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Mr Christian Onogba, gave this assurance recently when he went for an inspection tour of the mechanical desiltation of the Orogodo River in Ika South local Government Area of the State.
Mr Onogba,, said that the governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration would not relent in ensuring that issues relating to flooding in the state were addressed.
He also noted that the mechanical desiltation of the Orogodo River was informed by the need to clear the blocked natural waterways to ensure free flow of water.
The commissioner emphasized that flooding has been a problem in some communities in the state and the nation general as, according to him, the problem of flooding usually comes up whenever the rivers overflows their banks and called on the residents of the areas to always make sure that their blocked drainage were cleared to ensure the passage of water.
