GOVERNMENT SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
It is hereby announced for the information of the general public particularly communities in Delta State living along the banks of the River Niger, that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) have alerted Nigerians, especially those living along the banks of the River Niger, of imminent flooding in mid 2016, due to forecast of heavy rainfall.
In order to avert the problems associated with flooding, the Delta State Ministry of Environment has advised that persons living along the banks of the River Niger and other places prone to flooding should relocate to higher grounds.
Residents of the state are by this announcement advised to clear all illegal structures blocking natural waterways and drainages in order to ensure the free flow of water whenever it rains.
Traditional rulers and leaders of thought in flood prone communities are advised to mobilise their subjects to take necessary measures to avoid loss of life and property due to flooding.
Deltans are advised to cooperate with government in its efforts at mitigating the effects of the impending flood, by heeding the call to relocate from flood prone areas and clearing all illegal structures obstructing natural waterways and drainages.
