Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has commended the Isoko North Local Government Council for the provision of free eye test and treatment for the residents and Deltans in general which is in line with the SMART agenda of the Okowa administration.
The Governor gave the commendation at the Council Secretariat, Ozoro, during the flag-off ceremony at the Council Secretariat, Ozoro.
Governor Okowa while commending the Chairman and the people of Isoko North Local Government Area, stated that in spite of the paucity of fund, the Local Government was able to partner with BestCrest International Consulting Limited to bring in a team from Restore Sight African Initiative to bring succor to the people, stressing that with partnership we can do a lot for the people.
While thanking the sons and daughters of Isoko who contributed to make the program a yearly event urged them to make more effort to make it a quarterly one.
He urged other councils to key into the SMART initiative of self-help instead of waiting for government to always step in at all times, and advised the people to avail themselves of this opportunity to get their eyes checked at this free eye screening test.
Speaking at the event, the Council Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor thanked the governor for taking the time out to kick off the Free Eye Test event, saying that the first phase of the free eye test saw 1, 500 people being screened and over 250 eye glasses given out freely to people last year.
In the same vein, the Governor kick-started, his two years in office ceremony by the commissioning of an 8.5 km road, from Ozoro to Oleh and a 700 meter Amawah/Idheze Road, saying that the Oleh/Ozoro Road which leads to one of the major markets in the area would go a long way to bring succor and economic relief to the people, especially the market women in the area.
The Governor also inspected Ozaha Model Primary School, Oleh and the upgrade of Emore College in Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area.
