It is hereby announced for the information of the general public particularly Deltans that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), has predicted that Delta State is among the States in the Federation that will experience flooding this year as a result of heavy rain fall.
In order to avert the problems associated with flooding, the Delta State Ministry of Environment has directed that all owners of illegal structures, such as buildings, caravans blocking natural water ways and drainages to remove such structures to make way for free flow of water along its natural course.
Accordingly, the Ministry’s Officials, lead by the State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. John Nani, will soon embark on massive demolition of illegal structures built on natural water ways and the owners of such illegal structures will not only be made to bear the cost of demolition and evacuation, but will also be prosecuted in line with Delta State Urban and Regional Planning Edit.
Communities along the bank of the River Niger and other places prone to flooding are advised to relocate to higher ground.
Traditional rulers and Leaders of Thoughts in the State, especially those communities prone to flooding are advised to mobilize their subjects to take necessary measures to avoid lost of lives due to flooding.
A stitch in time saves nine.
